Highley

Thursday November 28th, well a few days ago they had forecast a nice day for today, what a joke, my usual trip to Kinlet, so with some free time I popped along to Highley Church, took a few photos but not many from inside the church as there were workman busy in there.
Just managed to get some photos in the churchyard before the rain came.
Popped along to the forest near Button Oak, was raining pretty steadily when I got there!
Very depressing weather.

Wet in the forest

Also popped along to Far Forest church, will be back there very soon as it looks an interesting place also some interesting fungi in the churchyard.

Well it was nice when I left home, but on arrival it was raining again!

St James the Great, Churchill
Still raining but being less than a mile from Blakedown I arrived and waited a little while and then it stopped.

Kinlet and Chelmarsh

Okay so not Worcestershire, but as I have to make several weekly visits to Kinlet in Shropshire for the next few months and have a couple of spare hours on each visit I thought I might as well look around the local churches.
First and hour or so around Kinlet, a very pretty and interesting church and I shall add more photos soon.

Chelmarsh looked interesting from the outside but it was locked, hopefully it will be open on my next visit, will also have a look at Highly, judging by the size of the town that will be quite large.

Not the best of weather today and so glad I took my flask of coffee with me.

Chelmarsh Church

As with Kinlet a lot of the headstones are now virtually un-readable and a lot are well past being able to decipher which is a shame and such a loss.

Bromsgrove and Elmbridge

Today I visited both named churches, firstly to Bromsgrove, I will have to return at some point as I only took photos of headstones near the church, I never had time to go round the other two churchyards.

On the way home I went to Elmbridge, pretty little church and just like Bromsgrove it was open.

More photos when time permits

Bromsgrove
Definitely need to get a better photo than this the light was awful.

Shelsley Walsh & Beauchamp

I will get round to posting more images very soon.
Took the photos a couple of weeks ago, just haven't had the time.

Shelsley Beauchamp

Shelsley Walsh

Oldswinford

Very dull day, amazed how big the church was when I arrived, should have took wider lens, as it stands I had to take 2 pics and stitch them together hence it looks a but warped.
The churchyard is round the back and what a churchyard, it is enormous.
Sadly a lot of the headstones are well past being unreadable, really needs a group to get there and give them a quick clean and photograph them before it's too late, a good snowfall and frost will destroy a lot more of them this winter I think.
I took over 300 photos so if you think you may have an ancestor buried here or a memorial inside the church then email me and I will see if I have a photo.

I shall have to find time to return as there are a lot more stones I can photograph, I left as it started to rain.

Clifton on Teme

Clifton on Teme, only a few miles from Shelsley so popped along, was hoping to find ancestors, but no such luck.

Nice church and again it's sad to see so many stones that are now virtually unreadable.

Sorry about poor quality of this one, but it is still readable.

Martley

Martley Church, I clicked lucky today with the weather, was a belting autumnal day.

Kinver and Enville

Okay it's not Worcestershire, but Kinver lies on the border, we used to walk there in our youth.
I know some of my family lived there, hence today's visit.
Visited here many times and yet to find the church open.

Main graveyard is over the lane, in a lovely setting.
BBC used this one for the weather on Midlands Today.

The Roll of Honour is situated in the village.

And while I was in the area I thought a walk around Enville's 12th century church would be in order.
And what a welcoming church tea and coffee making facilities for visitors.

The war memorial is in the village, couple hundred yards from the church.

Some really old headstones, but the majority have corroded and totally unreadable, but I do have plenty of photos of the readable ones, just email me at spennellspensioner@gmail.com with name and church and I can see if I have a photo.
Totally free service.
